January 30th, 2013  |  Published in business

Contractors can use construction business software to enforce standardized processes and streamline workflow.  This can be accomplished for connecting internal teams as well as improving those processes that involve external players such as clients, subcontractors, vendors, architects, etc.

And since it is now expected to be connected to information and contacts at every convenient moment, many construction professionals are employing the tools for mobility that work with construction business software solutions.

It is a tangible business value to have a streamlined and synchronized construction management process with all internal and external construction team members linked together using complete, all-in-one software solutions that bring together estimating, accounting, and project management into a single seamless system.

Construction Estimating Software Helps Contractor Complete Bids in Half the Time

January 16th, 2013  |  Published in business

It’s no wonder that construction estimating software has experienced widespread adoption in recent years. In comparison, when using manual takeoff and estimating methods that demand estimators do all the counting and scaling by hand, it often requires transferring numbers from one place to another multiple times and comparing plan versions by eye. That leads to greater chance of errors, which can be costly.

Take The PIPCO Companies, for example – a full-service construction contractor that chose to eliminate redundancy and slow processes by implementing takeoff and estimating software for construction. The estimator for their Excavation and Site Utilities division compared the two methods:

“A $500,000 bid, depending on the intricacy and unit prices, would have taken four or five days before, and now we can complete it in about two days – a 50% time-savings. Overall, I probably turn out 30% more bids than before because of the increased efficiency of the process with the seamless software solution we chose.”

In addition, PIPCO realized that by utilizing a takeoff and estimating software solution where historical data is stored, accuracy can be enhanced significantly. For instance, estimators know what a particular crew can achieve in one day or a certain timeframe, as well as review how a project was executed and so bid more effectively on similar work in the future.

“I am able to easily plug in what our crews can do in a linear foot, cubic yard, day, however I decide to set it up and the answer is right there. I also now have access to cost analyses for each project so that I can review how long a project or specific task took to accomplish and go back and tweak the solution’s database for future jobs.”

If are frustrated with your manual methods and duplication of effort to perform estimating, it’s time to evaluate how construction estimating software can benefit your business – in terms of takeoff, estimates, bidding, and more.
